It’s a 2×2 Wi-Fi 7 router with a combined maximum bandwidth of 3600 Mbps — specifically 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz, which is lower than many premium Wi-Fi 7 routers but more than sufficient for typical home broadband connections, 4K/8K streaming, gaming, and multi-device use.

The real-world differentiator is what Wi-Fi 7 actually brings at this price level: Multi-Link Operation (MLO) combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously for increased speed, lower latency, and improved reliability; Multi-RU enhances throughput through more efficient spectrum use; and 4K-QAM packs approximately 120% more data into each signal compared to the previous 1024-QAM of Wi-Fi 6.

Dual-band only — no 6 GHz. The BE230 covers 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz but does not include the 6 GHz band found in higher-end Wi-Fi 7 tri-band routers. For most homes this is not a practical limitation, but buyers specifically seeking 6 GHz connectivity should look at tri-band options. Wi-Fi 7 features also require clients that support 802.11be to benefit from MLO, 4K-QAM, and Multi-RU.

VPN support covers OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, and WireGuard — both server and client modes — allowing the router to run VPN connections for the entire network without needing per-device VPN software.
