The single SC/APC PON port handles either standard automatically, which makes this unit genuinely flexible across different ISP fibre plant types — useful in South Africa where both GPON and EPON deployments exist.

Check your fibre standard first: While this device supports both GPON and EPON, it must be provisioned by your ISP or OLT operator. Self-provisioning is not always possible on managed fibre networks — confirm compatibility with your provider before purchasing.

AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi

Wireless runs on 802.11ac/n/a at 5 GHz (up to 867 Mbps) and 802.11b/g/n at 2.4 GHz (up to 300 Mbps), with WPA/WPA2/WPA3-PSK security and up to 3 SSIDs per band. The XX230V uses 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and Beamforming, delivering up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz — a combined 1.8 Gbps. Compared to the AC1200-class XC220 series, this is a real-world improvement in congested environments: Wi-Fi 6’s OFDMA splits channels into sub-channels so multiple devices transmit simultaneously rather than taking turns, which matters in homes or offices with many connected devices.

Wi-Fi 6 speeds require Wi-Fi 6 clients. Older devices (phones, laptops on Wi-Fi 5 or earlier) connect fine but won’t benefit from the AX improvements. OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and WPA3 also require client-side support.

GPON with Full ITU G.984 Compliance

The unit is GPON-only (ITU G.984, Class B+), supporting 2.488 Gbps downstream and 1.244 Gbps upstream via a single SC/APC PON port, with downstream at 1490 nm and upstream at 1310 nm, up to 20 km reach. Unlike the XC220-G3 and G3v, this model does not include EPON support — it is GPON only.

GPON only — no EPON. If your ISP runs EPON infrastructure, this is not the right unit. Check with your provider before purchasing.

Ports, USB, and VoIP

The XX230V provides 1× Gigabit WAN/LAN port (configurable), 3× Gigabit LAN ports, 1× USB 2.0, and 1× RJ11 FXS port. The USB port supports Samba, FTP, and DLNA server functionality, so an external drive can be shared across the network as a basic NAS. VoIP features include multiple SIP account support, call hold, call forward, do not disturb, speed dial, and 3-party conferencing.

Wireless standards span IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, delivering up to 5760 Mbps at 5 GHz (across band1/band2/band3) and 1376 Mbps at 2.4 GHz — a combined 7.2 Gbps. The headline Wi-Fi 7 additions over Wi-Fi 6 are Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4K-QAM, Multi-RUs, and wider 320 MHz channels on 6 GHz (where applicable). MLO, Band Steering, Zero-Wait DFS, and EasyMesh are all supported. The 5 GHz radio uses a 4T5R antenna architecture (4 transmitters, 5 receivers) for improved receive sensitivity at longer ranges.

Wi-Fi 7 features require Wi-Fi 7 clients. MLO, 4K-QAM, and Multi-RUs only function with Wi-Fi 7 devices. Older clients connect normally at their supported standard. This is a dual-band device (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz); there is no 6 GHz band.

XGS-PON — Symmetric 10G Fibre

The XGS-PON port conforms to ITU G.9807.1, Class B+, delivering 10 Gbps downstream and 10 Gbps upstream at RX 1577 nm / TX 1270 nm via a DFB laser transmitter and PIN-TIA receiver, over an SC/APC connector at up to 20 km. This is the same XGS-PON standard as the Ubiquiti UISP-FIBER-XGS, but here it’s integrated into a full wireless CPE rather than a standalone ONU — the XGB430V Pro eliminates the need for a separate router entirely.

XGS-PON requires an XGS-PON OLT. This is not a GPON device. Confirm your fibre provider operates XGS-PON infrastructure and will provision a third-party ONT before purchasing.

Ports — 10G, Multi-Gig, VoIP, USB

Interfaces are: 1× SC/APC XGS-PON port, 1× 10G WAN/LAN port (configurable), 4× 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit LAN ports, 2× FXS VoIP ports, and 1× USB 3.0 port. The dual FXS ports are a meaningful step up from the single FXS on the XX230V — relevant for small businesses or homes with two active analogue lines.
