The Ubiquiti UISP Fiber XG (UISP-FIBER-XG) is an XG-PON optical network unit delivering 10 Gbps downstream and 2.5 Gbps upstream over a single SC/APC fibre connection at distances up to 20 km. It terminates to a 100/1000/2500 MbE RJ45 LAN port, is managed via the UISP platform, and is designed exclusively for use with the Ubiquiti UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS. The top-tier unit in Ubiquiti's UISP fibre CPE lineup — for deployments where 1 Gbps at the premises is no longer enough.

XG-PON — A Different Class of Fibre CPE

This is not a GPON device. The UISP-FIBER-XG uses an ITU-G.987 XG-PON WAN port, delivering a total non-blocking line rate of 9.95 Gbps downstream and 2.44 Gbps upstream — roughly 4× the downstream capacity of standard GPON (which tops out at 2.488 Gbps). XG-PON is the next-generation asymmetric PON standard, suited to high-density ISP deployments where GPON bandwidth is being exhausted, or to commercial and enterprise premises where a single subscriber genuinely needs multi-gigabit throughput.

The SC/APC WAN port operates at TX 1270 nm / RX 1577 nm with a normal TX range of 2 to 7 dBm and RX range of −9 to −27 dBm, using scrambled NRZ line coding, at a maximum physical reach of 20 km.

2.5 GbE LAN — No Bottleneck at the Premises

The LAN port is a 100/1000/2500 MbE auto-negotiating RJ45, meaning the XG-PON’s substantial downstream capacity can actually flow through to your downstream router or switch — provided that equipment also has a 2.5 GbE port. A 1 GbE LAN port would cap the link at one-tenth of what the PON connection can carry; Ubiquiti have avoided that here.

Designed for the UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS — and Only That

The UISP-FIBER-XG is only compatible with the UISP Fiber OLT XGS (UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS) and cannot be used with third-party OLTs. This is a firm Ubiquiti ecosystem constraint. The OLT-XGS supports XGS-PON, XG-PON, and GPON ports simultaneously, so existing GPON CPE (WaveFiber ONU, UF-WiFi6) can coexist on the same OLT while select premises are upgraded to XG-PON with the Fiber XG.

XG-PON only — not GPON. This unit requires an XG-PON port on the OLT. It will not register on a GPON-only OLT such as the UF-OLT or UF-OLT-4. Confirm your OLT supports XG-PON before purchasing.

Optical Signal LEDs

The three-LED PON signal indicator follows the same pattern as other UISP fibre CPE: all off during bootup; 1× orange for signal too low (below −27 dBm); 1× white for low signal (≥ −27 dBm); 2× white for good (≥ −24 dBm); 3× white for strong (≥ −12 dBm); 1× orange + 2× white for too strong (≥ −9 dBm); 3× orange for no signal.

Power, Form Factor, and Compliance

The unit measures 100 × 100 × 27 mm and weighs 220 g, housed in UV-stabilised polycarbonate. Power is via USB-C 5V/3A (included adapter) or 24V passive PoE (2-pair, pins 4/5+; 7/8−, 10–30V DC range). Maximum power consumption is 6W. Memory is 256 MB DDR with 32 MB NOR flash. The device is NDAA compliant and certified CE, FCC, and IC.

The Ubiquiti UISP Fiber XGS (UISP-FIBER-XGS) is an XGS-PON optical network unit delivering fully symmetric 10 Gbps in both directions — the highest-tier CPE in Ubiquiti's fibre lineup. It terminates to a multi-rate RJ45 LAN port supporting up to 10 GbE, is managed via UISP (v1.5.7+), and is designed exclusively for use with the Ubiquiti UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS. Where the Fiber XG is asymmetric, the XGS delivers full 10 Gbps symmetry.

XGS-PON — Symmetric 10 Gbps

The key distinction from everything else in this fibre lineup is symmetry. The UISP-FIBER-XGS uses an ITU-G.9807 XGS-PON WAN port with a total non-blocking line rate of 9.95 Gbps downstream and 9.95 Gbps upstream — fully symmetric multi-gigabit throughput. Where GPON delivers 2.488/1.244 Gbps and the Fiber XG delivers an asymmetric 9.95/2.44 Gbps, the XGS is the unit for deployments where upstream bandwidth matters as much as down: high-density residential builds, enterprise premises running cloud workloads, or ISPs delivering symmetric 10G service tiers.

The SC/APC WAN port operates at TX 1270 nm / RX 1577 nm with a normal TX range of 4 to 9 dBm and RX range of −9 to −26 dBm, using scrambled NRZ line coding, at a maximum physical reach of 20 km.

10 GbE LAN — Matched to the PON Capacity

The LAN port is a multi-rate 100/1000/2500/5000/10,000 MbE auto-negotiating RJ45, capable of terminating the full 10 Gbps PON capacity to downstream equipment. This is a meaningful differentiator over the Fiber XG, whose 2.5 GbE LAN port caps the effective client throughput well below the PON’s upstream capacity. To utilise the full 10 GbE LAN rate, downstream equipment (router, switch, or NIC) must also support 10 GbE.

OLT Compatibility — XGS-PON Port Required

The UISP-FIBER-XGS is only compatible with the UISP Fiber OLT XGS and cannot be used with third-party OLTs. The UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS supports XGS-PON, XG-PON, and GPON ports concurrently across its eight PON ports, so an XGS-PON port on the OLT is required for this unit specifically.

XGS-PON only — not GPON or XG-PON. This unit will not register on GPON-only OLTs (UF-OLT, UF-OLT-4) or on an XG-PON port. It requires an XGS-PON port on the UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS.

Power — USB-C Only

Unlike the Fiber XG and WaveFiber ONU which support both USB-C and 24V passive PoE, the UISP-FIBER-XGS is powered exclusively via USB-C 5V DC / 3A (included adapter), with a maximum power consumption of 8W. There is no passive PoE input on this unit — installation planning should account for a USB-C power point at the premises.

Optical Signal LEDs and Management

The three-LED PON signal strength indicator uses the same pattern as other UISP fibre CPE: all off during bootup; 1× orange for too low (below −27 dBm); 1× white for low (≥ −27 dBm); 2× white for good (≥ −24 dBm); 3× white for strong (≥ −12 dBm); 1× orange + 2× white for too strong (≥ −9 dBm); 3× orange for no signal. Management runs through the UISP platform (version 1.5.7 and later).
