Layer 3 Routing — Fully Capable

Unlike the CSS326 which is limited to Layer 2 SwOS operation, the CRS326 under RouterOS delivers full Layer 3 inter-VLAN routing, dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, RIP), hardware-offloaded routing, VPN termination (WireGuard, IPsec, OpenVPN, L2TP), firewall, QoS, and bandwidth management. It is capable of running many RouterOS features, though CPU-intensive tasks should be carefully considered given its role as a switch.

RouterOS is CPU-routed — while full RouterOS features are available, hardware-intensive routing workloads at very high throughput are better suited to a dedicated router. For most SOHO and small business deployments this is not a concern.
