The Extralink Jowisz (EX-ONU-J) is a compact EPON Optical Network Unit (ONU) designed for FTTH, FTTO, and FTTD fibre deployments. It bridges a single-mode fibre PON uplink (SC connector, 1.25 Gbps) to a standard Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port, making it a straightforward and cost-effective CPE device for ISPs and businesses connecting to EPON-based fibre infrastructure.

What It Does

The Jowisz ONU sits at the customer end of an EPON passive optical network, converting the incoming fibre signal into a standard Gigabit Ethernet connection your equipment can use. It’s the device your ISP or network installer provisions at the premises — the bridge between the fibre plant and your internal network.

It conforms to IEEE 802.3ah (EPON) and IEEE 802.1Q standards, and is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3-2005 and the EPON device technical specification V2.1, operable and manageable at telecoms level.

Ports and Connectivity

The unit provides a single SC fibre PON port and one 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-adaptive Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 LAN port. The PON interface runs at 1.25 Gbps symmetrically, using a single-mode single-fibre SC connector with a Tx wavelength of 1310 nm and Rx of 1490 nm.

It is not compatible with GPON infrastructure. Confirm your fibre provider’s PON standard before purchasing.

VLAN and QoS Support

The device supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN with up to 4094 VLANs, VLAN conversion, Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA), QoS with traffic flow classification, priority marking, queue management, traffic shaping and control, IGMP Snooping, and Ethernet port rate limiting with loop detection. These features make it suitable for managed deployments where traffic segregation or service quality guarantees are required.

Management

Configuration is handled via a web interface. Status LEDs cover SYS, POWER, LOS, PON, and LAN states for quick visual diagnostics. Firmware can be upgraded through the web UI.

The Ubiquiti UISP Fiber Coexistence WDM Filter (UACC-UF-WDM-XGS) is a passive 1U rack-mounted Wavelength Division Multiplexing module that allows GPON and XGS/XG-PON services to share the same physical fibre distribution plant simultaneously. It provides 8 GPON, 8 XGS/XG-PON, and 8 COM (splitter output) SC/UPC ports, enabling ISPs to migrate subscribers from GPON to XGS-PON progressively without laying new fibre or replacing existing splitter infrastructure.

What This Device Does — and Why It Matters

When an ISP deploys the UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS alongside an existing GPON network, the challenge is that GPON CPE (WaveFiber ONU, UF-WiFi6) and XGS/XG-PON CPE (UISP-FIBER-XGS, UISP-FIBER-XG) use different wavelengths that would interfere with each other on the same fibre if combined without filtering. The UACC-UF-WDM-XGS is a Wavelength Division Multiplexing module that combines XGS/XG-PON and GPON services into a single fibre distribution system — it separates and recombines these wavelengths cleanly, allowing both service types to coexist on the same fibre plant and passive splitters without interference.

In practice: an ISP can begin upgrading individual subscribers to XGS-PON (using the UISP-FIBER-XGS or UISP-FIBER-XG at the premises) while remaining subscribers stay on GPON, all on the same fibre infrastructure. No retrucking, no new fibre, no forced simultaneous cutover.

Port Layout — 8+8+8

The filter provides 8 COM (SC/UPC), 8 GPON (SC/UPC), and 8 XGS/XG-PON (SC/UPC) connectors — 24 SC/UPC ports total in a 1U rack chassis. The COM ports connect to the existing fibre distribution splitters; the GPON ports connect to the GPON OLT ports; the XGS/XG-PON ports connect to the XGS-PON OLT ports on the UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS. One WDM Filter module handles up to 8 fibre distribution legs simultaneously.

Optical Performance

For GPON–COM port paths, the WDM Filter passes wavelengths in the 1290–1330 nm and 1480–1500 nm ranges with a maximum insertion loss of 1 dB and minimum isolation of 25 dB. For XGS/XG-PON–COM port paths, it passes 1260–1280 nm and 1575–1580 nm with the same 1 dB maximum insertion loss and 25 dB minimum isolation. Minimum return loss is 50 dB and maximum polarisation-dependent loss is 0.1 dB. These are passive optical components — no power required, nothing to configure, nothing to fail.

Fibre type is ITU-T G.657.A1 single-mode.

Compatibility

Compatible devices include the UISP-FIBER-OLT-XGS, UISP-FIBER-XG, UISP-FIBER-XGS, UF-WiFi6, UF-WIFI, UF-LOCO, and UF-Nano. In short: the full Ubiquiti UISP fibre CPE range on both the GPON and XGS-PON sides.

This is ISP/operator headend infrastructure. The WDM Filter is installed at the OLT/distribution side of the network, not at the customer premises. It is purchased by ISPs, network operators, and system integrators building or upgrading UISP fibre deployments — not by end subscribers.
