The SSD220S features a RAID engine and LDPC (Low-Density Parity Check) coding — a powerful ECC algorithm — to keep data secure, alongside built-in wear-leveling technology to ensure data integrity during transmission and prolong the drive’s lifespan. LDPC ECC is a meaningfully stronger error correction implementation than basic ECC, capable of detecting and recovering from a higher number of bit errors — particularly relevant for TLC NAND, which has higher per-cell error rates by nature.

DevSleep for Laptop Battery Life

With full support for SATA Device Sleep Mode (DevSleep), the SSD220S can prolong notebook battery life by intelligently shutting down the SATA interface when it is not in use, entering an ultra-low power state that consumes up to 90% less power — without affecting the user experience when the system wakes. A useful feature for laptops that spend time in sleep or idle states.

Aluminium Casing and Transcend SSD Scope

The “S” suffix in SSD220S denotes the aluminium enclosure — a step up from the plastic shells on many budget drives, and a small but genuine quality-of-life improvement for installers. Transcend SSD Scope software is available for download and provides drive health monitoring, TRIM command support, firmware updates, and S.M.A.R.T. data — giving you visibility into drive condition and warning of any impending issues before they become data loss events.

SATA only — this is a 2.5″ SATA III drive, not NVMe. It will not fit an M.2 slot. Confirm your system has a 2.5″ SATA bay before ordering.

120GB capacity — at 120GB this drive is best suited to a lean OS and applications install, or as a secondary cache/boot drive. If you need room for a full software library, media collection, or large project files alongside your OS, consider the 240GB or larger variants in our SATA SSD range.

DRAM-less design — current production SSD220S units use a DRAM-less controller with SLC caching. Everyday desktop and laptop workloads are handled well; for sustained heavy write workloads a DRAM-cached drive is a better fit.
