The 9900X3D is built on the same foundation as the Ryzen 9 9900X, but with a single L3 SRAM chiplet placed under one of its two compute dies — boosting L3 cache capacity to 128MB across its 12 active Zen 5 cores and 24 threads. The SRAM-under-CCD arrangement of AMD’s 2nd-gen V-Cache design improves thermals over older X3D chips and enables full multiplier-based overclocking. Total on-chip cache comes to 140MB when combining L2 and L3, giving the processor an enormous data reservoir to draw on in both gaming and demanding compute workloads.

Gaming and Productivity in One Package

AMD’s chipset drivers pin gaming threads to the single V-Cache compute die, effectively creating a six-core, twelve-thread X3D gaming processor while gaming, with the remaining cores engaging fully during productivity workloads — giving you 12 cores and 24 threads for heavier compute tasks. This dual-personality design means the 9900X3D handles content creation, video encoding, software compilation, and multitasking at a level the eight-core X3D chips simply can’t match, while still delivering strong gaming frame rates backed by the V-Cache advantage.

The 9900X3D supports AMD EXPO memory overclocking technology, Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimizer voltage offsets, and full Ryzen Master support — giving you a comprehensive suite of tuning tools out of the box. DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0, native USB 4, and USB 3.2 connectivity are all supported, and the integrated AMD Radeon graphics let you POST and troubleshoot without a discrete GPU.
