Unlike mobile Zen 5 designs, all six cores here are full-fat Zen 5 implementations — no efficiency cores, no compromises. At 65W TDP, AMD brought the power draw back in line with the older 5600X and 3600X, reversing the 7600X’s aggressive 105W approach and making this chip genuinely practical for compact and budget-conscious builds.

Performance Per Watt

In a standout result for a 65W chip, the 9600X delivers single-core performance that beats its intended rival, the Intel Core i5-14600K, despite that chip running at nearly double the power draw. Multi-threaded performance is solid for a 6-core part, and the chip handles daily workloads, light content creation, and gaming comfortably. An aftermarket cooler — even a mid-range tower air cooler — is all you need to get the best out of it.

Platform & Connectivity

The 9600X supports AMD EXPO memory overclocking technology, Precision Boost Overdrive, and Curve Optimizer voltage offsets, giving you meaningful tuning options without needing to go near manual overclocking. It supports DDR5 memory up to 5,600 MT/s officially, with overclocking headroom well beyond that, and carries 24 direct PCIe 5.0 lanes.
