MAMR Technology — High-Capacity Recording Without Compromise
The MG09ACA16TE is built on Toshiba’s MAMR (Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording) platform, which uses microwave energy to temporarily reduce the coercivity of the recording medium during write operations — enabling higher areal density without the thermal stability concerns that limit conventional PMR at extreme densities. This allows the MG09 to reach 16TB while maintaining the CMR write behaviour and predictable random write performance that enterprise RAID and NAS deployments require.
Helium Sealed Design
Like the MG07 series, the MG09ACA16TE is helium-sealed, reducing aerodynamic drag on the platters for lower operating temperatures, quieter operation, and improved power efficiency per terabyte. At 8.3W typical operating power for a 16TB drive, the watts-per-TB ratio is exceptionally competitive for dense rack deployments where power and cooling costs compound at scale.
512e Sector Format — Broad System Compatibility
The MG09ACA16TE uses 512e (512-byte emulation) sector format, presenting 512-byte logical sectors to the host while using 4,096-byte physical sectors internally. This ensures compatibility with legacy BIOS systems, older RAID controllers, and all modern OS environments without specialist configuration — the broadest possible deployment flexibility at this capacity tier.
Persistent Write Cache & Vibration Control
MG Series drives include Persistent Write Cache technology, ensuring that write-cached data is not lost in the event of a power interruption — a critical safeguard for RAID arrays and always-on server deployments.
