AMD moved the 3D V-Cache from on top of the cores — where it had been on the 5800X3D and 7800X3D — and placed it underneath the cores on the 9800X3D. The original design put the heat-sensitive V-Cache between the CPU cores and the heatspreader, which insulated the CPU and prevented overclocking. The result is a chip that runs cooler, boosts higher, and overclock — all while retaining the massive gaming cache advantage.

Second-Generation 3D V-Cache

The 9800X3D features 96MB of L3 cache — a combination of 32MB on the CCD and 64MB through the stacked V-Cache — plus 8MB of L2 cache, totalling 104MB of combined cache. This enormous on-chip data store dramatically reduces latency in games, keeping the CPU cores fed with data rather than waiting on slower system memory.

Zen 5 Architecture — 4nm Performance

AMD has increased clock speeds significantly in the 9800X3D compared to its predecessors, reaching up to 5.25 GHz in Turbo mode, and AMD EXPO, PBO, and Precision Boost overclocking features are fully supported. Every core is a full Zen 5 core — no efficiency cores, no compromises.

All AMD 600-series motherboards are supported, alongside all 800-series boards — giving you broad compatibility across B650, X670, B850, X870 and their E variants. DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 are standard.
