The Gigabyte A520M S2H is a no-frills entry-level AM4 board that earns its place through broad display output compatibility and thoughtful office-focused inclusions. Three rear video outputs — HDMI, DVI-D, and D-Sub — cover virtually any monitor combination a business is likely to have in circulation, removing the need for display adapters in mixed-monitor environments. A PS/2 combo port adds legacy keyboard and mouse support for environments still running older input devices. RGB Fusion 2.0 and Q-Flash Plus are also present — unexpected inclusions at this price tier that add modest functional and cosmetic value without inflating the cost.

Power Delivery

The 4+3 phase pure digital VRM with low RDS(on) MOSFETs provides stable power delivery for mainstream Ryzen CPUs within sensible TDP limits. As with all A520 boards, CPU overclocking is not supported — this is a platform built for dependable stock-frequency operation. Ryzen 3, 5, and 7 processors in the 65W bracket are the appropriate CPU pairing. Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable construction — ICs with up to 3x standard ESD resistance, anti-sulfur resistors, and anti-surge protection — contributes to the long-term reliability expected of office deployments.

Memory and Storage

Two DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 64 GB of dual-channel ECC/non-ECC unbuffered memory, with A-XMP OC support extending to DDR4-5000 for compatible kits. A single PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot handles NVMe storage up to 2280 length, without a thermal guard heatsink. Four SATA III ports provide conventional storage expansion. There is no second M.2 slot — storage growth beyond SATA requires planning at the time of build.

Connectivity

The Realtek 8118 Gaming Gigabit LAN port includes bandwidth management software for traffic prioritisation. No onboard WiFi is present. The rear I/O provides HDMI, DVI-D, and D-Sub display outputs — the most versatile triple-output configuration available at this chipset tier. Four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 ports handle peripheral connectivity, supplemented by the PS/2 combo port for legacy input devices. Audio uses a Realtek ALC887 codec with high-quality capacitors and an audio noise guard. RGB Fusion 2.0 supports addressable LED and standard RGB strip headers. Q-Flash Plus enables BIOS updates from a USB drive without needing a CPU, RAM, or GPU installed — a practical feature for system builders and IT departments managing multiple deployments. Smart Fan 5 manages fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC detection and FAN STOP support.

⚠️ The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. A-XMP memory profiles are still supported.

⚠️ Only two DIMM slots are present — maximum RAM is 64 GB across two sticks with no further expansion. If four slots are needed, the A520M DS3H V2 offers that at a modest premium.

⚠️ The single M.2 slot has no thermal guard heatsink. For PCIe 3.0 NVMe drives under sustained workloads, an aftermarket M.2 heatsink is recommended.

⚠️ Verify your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against Gigabyte’s AM4 compatibility list — a BIOS update may be required before 5000-series CPUs are recognised on earlier board revisions.
