The Spatium S270 is optimised for the SATA III interface, reaching sequential read speeds up to 500MB/s and write speeds up to 400MB/s for rapid data transfers and shorter load times. Random 4K performance reaches up to 50,000 IOPS read and 80,000 IOPS write. The write speed is lower than some competing 240GB drives — worth knowing upfront — but for the typical use case of booting Windows, running office applications, and everyday file work, the practical difference is minimal.

Kioxia 3D NAND, LDPC ECC, and E2E Data Protection

The S270 uses the latest 3D NAND flash technology for dense, compact storage. Built-in LDPC ECC (Low-Density Parity Check) error correction ensures data integrity and extends NAND lifespan, alongside E2E Data Path protection for enhanced system stability during transfers. These aren’t marketing terms — LDPC ECC is a meaningfully stronger error correction algorithm than basic ECC, capable of recovering data from a higher number of bit errors, which matters for drive longevity.

MSI Center and Actiphy — Genuinely Useful Software

MSI Center software lets users migrate data and monitor drive health and performance metrics in real time. The included Actiphy software adds backup and restore functionality to help prevent accidental data loss. The 110TBW endurance rating is the lowest in this range, so for light to moderate daily workloads it’s well within spec, but it’s not the right choice for write-heavy environments.

ℹ️ DRAM-less design — the S270 uses a Phison S11 controller without a dedicated DRAM cache, relying on SLC caching for burst write performance. Fine for everyday desktop and laptop use; for sustained heavy writes, consider a DRAM-cached drive like the Kingston KC600.

ℹ️ TBW note — at 110TBW, the 240GB S270 has the lowest endurance rating in our SATA SSD range. The 5-year warranty is excellent, but this drive is best suited to light-to-moderate daily use rather than write-intensive workloads.
