FC-MAMR Technology — Next-Generation Recording
Toshiba’s Flux Control Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR) technology increases areal density, allowing high-capacity storage while maintaining conventional write methods. This enables MG Series drives to achieve high capacities without the limitations of traditional high-density HDDs. FC-MAMR represents a meaningful engineering advancement over the CMR platform used in the MG07ACA series, delivering improved write efficiency and data reliability at high platter densities.
512e Sector Format — Broad System Compatibility
Unlike the MG07ACA12TA’s 4Kn-only format, it uses 512e (512-byte emulation) — presenting 512-byte logical sectors to the host while using 4,096-byte physical sectors internally. This means it is compatible with legacy BIOS systems, older RAID controllers, and virtually all modern OS environments without requiring specialist configuration, making it the more deployment-friendly option for mixed infrastructure.
Persistent Write Cache & Vibration Control
MG Series drives include Persistent Write Cache technology and rotational vibration (RV) sensors to detect and compensate for vibrations, reducing the risk of knock-on effects and ensuring smooth operation in dense storage enclosures. Persistent Write Cache ensures that write-cached data is not lost in the event of a power interruption — a critical feature for RAID arrays and always-on server deployments where data integrity is non-negotiable.
Performance & Power Efficiency
With a 512MB DRAM cache — double that of the MG07ACA series — and a sustained transfer rate of 268 MiB/s, it outperforms its predecessor on both cache headroom and sequential throughput.
