Unlike planar NAND memory, 3D NAND flash features memory cells stacked vertically in multiple layers, overcoming the density limitations of 2D planar NAND and delivering a higher level of performance and endurance. The SSD220S pairs this with built-in SLC caching, which temporarily absorbs incoming writes in faster single-level cell mode — the result is snappier burst performance for the everyday tasks that matter most: booting Windows, launching applications, and accessing frequently used files.

RAID Engine and LDPC ECC — Proper Data Protection

The SSD220S features a RAID engine and LDPC (Low-Density Parity Check) coding — a powerful ECC algorithm — to keep data secure, alongside built-in wear-leveling technology to ensure data integrity during transmission and prolong the drive’s lifespan. LDPC ECC is a meaningfully stronger error correction implementation than basic ECC, capable of detecting and recovering from a higher number of bit errors — particularly relevant for TLC NAND, which has higher per-cell error rates by nature.

DevSleep for Laptop Battery Life

With full support for SATA Device Sleep Mode (DevSleep), the SSD220S can prolong notebook battery life by intelligently shutting down the SATA interface when it is not in use, entering an ultra-low power state that consumes up to 90% less power — without affecting the user experience when the system wakes. A useful feature for laptops that spend time in sleep or idle states.

Aluminium Casing and Transcend SSD Scope

The “S” suffix in SSD220S denotes the aluminium enclosure — a step up from the plastic shells on many budget drives, and a small but genuine quality-of-life improvement for installers. Transcend SSD Scope software is available for download and provides drive health monitoring, TRIM command support, firmware updates, and S.M.A.R.T. data — giving you visibility into drive condition and warning of any impending issues before they become data loss events.

⚠️ SATA only — this is a 2.5″ SATA III drive, not NVMe. It will not fit an M.2 slot. Confirm your system has a 2.5″ SATA bay before ordering.
