The TRX50 WS is ASRock’s purpose-built workstation motherboard for AMD’s sTR5 platform, supporting the full Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000/7000 WX-Series and Ryzen Threadripper 9000/7000 Series processor lineup. The 18+3+3 phase power design uses 110A Smart Power Stage components across a 12-layer, 2oz copper PCB — a construction standard well above mainstream consumer boards, contributing to better signal integrity, thermal management, and power delivery stability under the sustained multi-core loads that Threadripper workstation builds demand. Dual 8-pin ATX12V Hi-Density power connectors are mandatory (both must be connected), and dual 6-pin PCIe 12V connectors plus a separate 6-pin graphics 12V connector (GFX_12V1) are also required for proper system operation. A Multi PSU Adaptor Cable is included in the box for builders who need a secondary PSU via the ATX_CON1 header. Onboard power and reset buttons with LEDs, a Dr. Debug display, and BIOS Flashback make this a board designed for serious system builders who need full control from the moment of first POST.

⚠️ Both 8-pin ATX12V connectors (ATX12V1 and ATX12V2) must be connected for the system to boot. The 6-pin GFX_12V1 connector must also be connected, regardless of whether a PCIe card is installed. When overclocking, all 8-pin and 6-pin 12V connectors must be populated. Ensure your PSU has sufficient connectors and wattage for this platform before purchasing — Threadripper systems typically require 1000W+ PSUs.

Memory and Expansion

Four DDR5 DIMM slots support quad-channel operation using ECC buffered memory (RDIMM and RDIMM-3DS), with a massive 1 TB maximum capacity and XMP/EXPO OC support up to DDR5-7600+. Quad-channel activates with four populated slots; two sticks activates dual-channel and three activates triple-channel. The expansion slot layout is generous: PCIE1 and PCIE3 are full PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, PCIE4 is a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot running at x8, PCIE2 is PCIe 4.0 x16 at x4 mode, and PCIE5 is PCIe 4.0 x16 at x8 mode — all with 15μ gold contacts. This makes the TRX50 WS well-suited to multi-GPU or GPU-plus-accelerator workstation configurations for rendering, deep learning, and simulation workloads.

⚠️ ECC RDIMM is required — standard unbuffered consumer DDR5 DIMMs are not supported on this platform. Ensure memory is sourced from ASRock’s validated RDIMM/RDIMM-3DS support list before purchasing.

Storage, Connectivity, and I/O

Storage is workstation-grade: a CPU-connected Blazing M.2 (M2_1) runs at PCIe Gen5x4 (128 Gb/s), a chipset-connected Hyper M.2 (M2_2) runs at PCIe Gen4x4 (64 Gb/s), an MCIO (SFF-8611) connector provides another PCIe Gen5x4 path for server-grade NVMe expansion, and two SlimSAS SFF-8654 connectors each support either PCIe Gen4x4 or four SATA3 ports — effectively offering up to eight additional SATA ports when both are configured for SATA. Four native SATA3 ports complete the onboard storage. Networking is dual-stack: a Marvell AQC113 10GbE port handles high-throughput transfers to NAS, local servers, or cloud storage, while a Realtek Dragon 2.5G LAN port provides standard wired connectivity. Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax, 2.4/5/6 GHz, MU-MIMO) and Bluetooth 5.2 are onboard. Rear USB is comprehensive: USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (20 Gb/s), one Gen2 Type-C (10 Gb/s), four Gen2 Type-A (10 Gb/s), and two Gen1 Type-A — a total of eight rear USB ports. ⚠️ This is an EATX form factor board (305 mm × 277 mm). Verify chassis EATX compatibility and clearances before ordering — standard ATX cases will not fit this board.

⚠️ The sTR5 socket uses AMD’s TR5 carrier frame/rail frame CPU installation mechanism, which differs from AM5. A liquid cooler is strongly recommended for all Threadripper processors — air coolers must be verified for sTR5 compatibility and TDP rating.

💡 The MCIO and SlimSAS connectors are server/workstation-grade interfaces not found on consumer boards. If you plan to use these for NVMe expansion (MCIO) or SATA/NVMe expansion (SlimSAS), appropriate host bus adapters or backplanes with matching SFF-8611/SFF-8654 connectors will be required.
