Description
ROG-Grade B550 with a Standout Silver-and-White Finish
The ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming occupies the same feature tier as the B550-F Gaming but trades the all-black aesthetic for a cyberpunk-inspired silver-and-white finish — making it the natural choice for white or silver-themed builds that don’t want to compromise on hardware capability. It brings the PCIe 4.0 platform, robust 12+2 phase power delivery, and ROG-exclusive audio and networking features into a standard ATX footprint, with support for the full Ryzen 3000 through 5000 Series CPU lineup.
Power Delivery and Thermal Management
The 12+2 phase power design uses teamed power stages with a dedicated MOS heatsink and thermal pads covering both MOSFETs and chokes for effective heat transfer under sustained overclocking loads. The VRM heatsink design mirrors what ASUS offers on its higher-end ROG Strix X570 boards — a meaningful advantage over most competing B550 ATX designs. Fan Xpert 4 with Auto-Tuning mode manages all fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC detection and temperature-based curve control. Four onboard Q-LED diagnostic LEDs — CPU, DRAM, VGA, and Boot — light sequentially during POST to quickly identify hardware issues without a debug display.
Memory and Storage
Four DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 128 GB of dual-channel unbuffered memory — ECC support is CPU-dependent — with OC profiles reaching DDR4-5100 for compatible kits. Both M.2 slots support drives up to 22110 length and include individual heatsinks: the primary M.2 slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 from the CPU when paired with a Ryzen 3000 or 5000 Series CPU, while the secondary slot operates at PCIe 3.0 x4 from the chipset. NVMe RAID across both M.2 slots is supported for additional throughput. Six SATA III ports provide extensive conventional storage capacity.
Connectivity
An Intel I225-V 2.5 GbE LAN port with ASUS LANGuard hardware protection delivers wired networking at 2.5x standard Gigabit speeds — a meaningful upgrade for fast local network transfers and low-latency gaming. No onboard WiFi is included. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port on the rear I/O provides fast 10 Gb/s connectivity for compatible devices, alongside multiple USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 Type-A ports. A Thunderbolt 3 header is included for attaching an optional Thunderbolt expansion card — unusual at this chipset tier. Rear display outputs include HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K@60Hz) and DisplayPort 1.2 for APU-based builds. Audio uses ASUS’s ROG SupremeFX S1220A codec with a 113dB SNR headphone amplifier, DTS Sound Unbound spatial audio, and AI noise-cancelling microphone software. Aura Sync with two Addressable Gen 2 RGB headers and one standard RGB header enables comprehensive lighting control. BIOS FlashBack allows BIOS updates from USB without a CPU, RAM, or GPU installed. The pre-mounted I/O shield finishes the assembly experience cleanly.
⚠️ No onboard WiFi is included. If wireless connectivity is needed, consider the ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II or add a PCIe WiFi adapter.
⚠️ PCIe 4.0 on the primary M.2 and GPU slot requires a Ryzen 3000 or 5000 Series CPU — Ryzen 4000 G-Series APUs are PCIe 3.0 only.
⚠️ The Thunderbolt 3 header requires a separate ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 expansion card — Thunderbolt functionality is not available without it.
⚠️ Confirm your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against ASUS’s AM4 compatibility list — a BIOS update may be required before 5000-series CPUs are recognised on earlier board revisions. Use BIOS FlashBack to update without a compatible CPU if needed.
⚠️ ECC memory support is CPU-dependent — confirm your Ryzen model’s ECC capability if this is a workload requirement.
