Navi 21 — The 4K-Capable RDNA 2 Silicon

The RX 6800 sits on AMD’s Navi 21 die — a step above the Navi 22 found in the RX 6700 XT family, with 60 compute units versus 40 and 3840 stream processors versus 2560. The key architectural advantage is AMD’s Infinity Cache: 128MB of on-die cache compared to the 6700 XT’s 96MB — a larger pool that more effectively compensates for the 256-bit GDDR6 bus, delivering real-world memory bandwidth comparable to cards with significantly wider interfaces. At 1440p the RX 6800 handles demanding titles at maximum settings with strong frame rates, and 4K gaming at high to ultra settings is genuinely achievable — something the 6700 XT tier can’t consistently claim. Gigabyte’s factory OC in OC mode pushes the boost clock to 2190 MHz and the game clock to 1980 MHz, both meaningfully above AMD’s reference figures. DirectX 12 Ultimate, hardware ray tracing, variable rate shading, and FSR 1, 2, and 3 are all supported. AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) is supported when paired with a Ryzen 5000 series or newer platform.

All-Aluminium TUF Build — MaxContact, Axial-Tech, 144-Hour Validation

The TUF Gaming RX 6800 uses an all-aluminium shroud — not plastic — with a reinforced internal frame and a metal backplate, giving the card a substantially more solid build quality than most GPU shrouds at this price point. MaxContact ensures a precision-flat heat spreader surface for improved contact with the GPU die, reducing thermal resistance at the point that matters most. Three Axial-tech fans carry 13 blades on the centre fan and 11 on the outer two, with dual ball bearings rated to last approximately twice as long as sleeve-bearing designs, and barrier rings tuned to increase downward air pressure into the heatsink. ASUS puts every TUF Gaming card through a 144-hour validation programme — extended compatibility and stability testing across the latest game titles — before it ships. A vented backplate prevents hot air from recirculating back through the cooling array, exhausting it away from the PCB instead.

Auto-Extreme Manufacturing, Aura Sync, GPU Tweak II

Auto-Extreme Technology completes all soldering in a single automated pass, reducing thermal stress on components during manufacturing and avoiding harsh cleaning chemicals. An Aura Sync RGB element on the card’s shroud is customisable via ASUS’s Aura software and synchronises with compatible ASUS components. GPU Tweak II provides clock speed, memory frequency, voltage, and fan curve control with real-time on-screen monitoring. Power delivery uses 2× 8-pin PCIe connectors with a TDP of 250W and a 650W minimum PSU recommendation. Outputs cover 1× HDMI 2.1 and 3× DisplayPort 1.4a for up to four simultaneous displays at up to 7680×4320.

⚠️ Previous-generation card: The RX 6800 is based on RDNA 2 (2020). FSR 4, AMD HYPR-RX, and other features introduced with RDNA 4 are not supported. FSR 1, 2, and 3 are fully supported. Ray tracing performance reflects the RDNA 2 generation rather than RDNA 3 or 4 hardware.
