The Gigabyte A520M K V2 is designed for builders whose priority is keeping costs low while still landing on a modern, supportable AM4 platform. It carries Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable branding — all-solid capacitors, anti-sulfur resistors, and above-standard ESD protection — which speaks to long-term board reliability even at the entry price point. The Micro-ATX form factor fits a wide range of compact and standard mid-tower cases, and full Ryzen 5000 Series support means there is still meaningful CPU headroom for modest upgrades without replacing the board.

Power Delivery

The VRM delivers power across five phases with a combined 50A capacity, suited to low-to-mid-range Ryzen CPUs within the 65W TDP bracket. It handles everyday workloads comfortably with appropriate CPU pairings. Higher-TDP processors — particularly Ryzen 9 chips or any CPU above 65W — are not well served by this power stage configuration, and the A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking in any case. Pair this board with a Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 processor within its TDP range for the best result.

Memory and Storage

Two DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 64 GB of dual-channel ECC/non-ECC unbuffered memory, with OC support reaching DDR4-5100 for compatible kits — a notable ceiling for an A520 board, though practical gains at that speed on this platform are limited. A single PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot supports both NVMe and SATA M.2 drives up to 2280 length. Four SATA III ports provide additional storage with RAID 0, 1, and 10 support. No second M.2 slot is available — storage expansion beyond SATA requires external solutions.

Connectivity

A Realtek Gigabit LAN port with bandwidth management handles wired networking. No onboard WiFi is included. Rear display outputs cover HDMI 2.1 and D-Sub (VGA), making this board particularly practical for APU-based office builds where legacy monitor compatibility matters. USB connectivity on the rear I/O includes four USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 ports. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC892/ALC897 codec with high-quality audio capacitors and an audio noise guard for cleaner output. Smart Fan 5 manages fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC detection and FAN STOP support. There is no RGB on this board — in keeping with its plain, office-appropriate aesthetic.

⚠️ The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. If overclocking is a requirement, this is the wrong platform — look at a B550 board instead. A-XMP memory profiles are still supported.

⚠️ The VRM is suited to CPUs at or below 65W TDP. Pairing this board with high-TDP Ryzen 9 processors is not recommended and may cause instability under sustained load.

⚠️ Verify your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against Gigabyte’s AM4 compatibility list — Rev 1.1 ships with an updated BIOS supporting Ryzen 5000 out of the box, but Rev 1.0 may require a BIOS update first.
