Description

Dependable AM4 Fundamentals at an Accessible Price

The ASUS Prime A520M-K delivers what the Prime series is known for — stable power delivery, sensible feature selection, and consistent build quality — at the most accessible point in the AM4 lineup. It supports the full Ryzen 3000, 4000 G-Series, and 5000 Series CPU range, giving buyers access to a well-established ecosystem with broad CPU availability and competitive pricing. The Micro-ATX form factor suits a wide range of compact and standard chassis, and the no-nonsense design makes it a natural fit for office deployments, budget home PCs, and APU-based systems where the CPU handles display output.

Power Delivery and Cooling

The Digi+ VRM provides real-time digital voltage control with automatic frequency and power-efficiency adjustments, keeping CPU power delivery stable across varying workloads. The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking, so the VRM’s role here is consistent stability rather than headroom for tuning. Fan Xpert 4 manages all fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC auto-detection, configurable fan curves, and an Extreme Quiet mode that drops fan speeds below default minimums during light tasks. Each fan header can reference up to three thermal sensors simultaneously for more accurate temperature-based control.

Memory and Storage

Two DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 64 GB of dual-channel unbuffered memory — ECC support is CPU-dependent — with A-XMP OC profiles reaching DDR4-5100 for compatible kits. A single PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot supports both NVMe and SATA M.2 drives up to 2280 length, without a thermal guard heatsink. Four SATA III ports provide conventional storage expansion with RAID 0, 1, and 10 support. No second M.2 slot is available — storage planning should account for this at build time.

Connectivity

A Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit LAN port handles wired networking. No onboard WiFi is included. Rear display outputs cover HDMI and D-Sub (VGA) — a practical combination for APU builds in mixed-monitor office environments where legacy VGA displays may still be in use. Four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 ports handle rear peripheral connectivity. Audio uses a Realtek ALC887 codec delivering 7.1-channel output. No RGB headers are present on this board, keeping the aesthetic plain and professional. ASUS’s UEFI BIOS with EZ Mode provides an accessible interface for system configuration and basic tuning.

⚠️ The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. A-XMP memory profiles are still supported for RAM speed adjustments.

⚠️ Only two DIMM slots are present — maximum capacity is 64 GB across two sticks with no option to expand. Plan your memory configuration at purchase time.

⚠️ The single M.2 slot has no thermal guard heatsink. An aftermarket M.2 heatsink is advisable for NVMe drives under sustained workloads.

⚠️ ECC memory functionality depends on the installed CPU — not all consumer Ryzen CPUs expose ECC capability even when the board supports it in principle.

⚠️ Confirm your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against ASUS’s AM4 compatibility list, as a BIOS update may be required before 5000-series CPUs are recognised on earlier board revisions.
