Memory and Storage
Two DDR4 DIMM slots accommodate up to 64 GB of dual-channel memory, with native DDR4-3200 support and A-XMP profiles available for higher-speed kits. The single M.2 slot (PCIe 3.0) is fitted with MSI’s M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink to keep NVMe drives cool under sustained read/write loads. Four SATA III ports provide ample room for additional HDDs, SSDs, or optical drives.
Connectivity and Display
Where the A520M Pro offers a single HDMI output, the A520M-A Pro adds a DVI-D port alongside HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K@60Hz), giving it slightly more flexibility for multi-monitor setups in office environments using older displays. The rear I/O includes four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and two USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and three 3.5mm audio jacks backed by a Realtek 7.1 codec with Audio Boost.
⚠️ The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. If overclocking is a requirement, look at a B550 or X570 board instead. A-XMP memory overclocking is still supported.
⚠️ Verify your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against MSI’s AM4 compatibility list — early A520 boards may need a BIOS update before 5000-series CPUs are recognised.
⚠️ With only two DIMM slots, your maximum RAM configuration is two sticks. Plan your capacity upfront rather than expanding later.
