B840 with Wireless, Kept Simple

The B840M Eagle WiFi6 is Gigabyte’s mid-level B840 Micro-ATX offering, positioned between the entry-level D2H and the AORUS Elite WiFi6E. It brings built-in wireless to a simple two-DIMM platform with the core B840 feature set: Realtek 2.5GbE LAN, DisplayPort 1.4 plus HDMI 2.1 for dual-display iGPU output, four fan headers including a CPU pump and system pump header, and the standard Gigabyte build-quality inclusions — EZ-Latch on the primary PCIe x16 slot, Q-Flash Plus, debug LEDs, and 5 W/mk M.2 thermal pad coverage. The 2× ARGB and RGB headers give builders enough lighting control for a clean single-zone setup without over-engineering the board.

⚠️ The B840 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. Memory overclocking via AMD EXPO and XMP profiles is supported up to DDR5-7600 (OC) — a lower ceiling than the B840M Aorus Elite WiFi6E (DDR5-8200 OC). If higher memory OC is needed, step up to the Aorus Elite WiFi6E.

⚠️ The onboard wireless is Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax, 2.4/5 GHz) — not Wi-Fi 6E. The 6 GHz band is not supported. If 6 GHz tri-band wireless is a requirement, the B840M Aorus Elite WiFi6E is the appropriate alternative.

Memory and Storage

Two DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation up to 128 GB, with AMD EXPO and XMP profiles reaching DDR5-7600 (OC). M2A_CPU is CPU-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) and supports 2580 and 2280 form factors, with a 5 W/mk thermal pad included for heat management. M2C_SB is chipset-connected at PCIe 3.0 x2 (16 Gb/s) in 2280 only — a slow secondary slot best suited to lower-demand NVMe drives rather than a primary SSD. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports handle additional storage. RAID 0/1/5/10 is supported for NVMe (RAID 5 on Ryzen 9000 only) and RAID 0/1/10 for SATA.

⚠️ Only two DIMM slots are present — maximum 128 GB. Builders who need four slots or 256 GB capacity should look at the B840M DS3H or B840M Aorus Elite WiFi6E.

⚠️ M2C_SB runs at PCIe 3.0 x2 (16 Gb/s) — significantly slower than PCIe 4.0 x4. Use M2A_CPU as the primary drive. M2C_SB is best reserved for secondary or archival NVMe storage.

Connectivity and I/O

Rear I/O provides six USB ports: two USB Gen1 Type-A (5 Gbps, CPU) and four USB 2.0 Type-A (CPU+hub) — there is no USB Type-C on the rear panel. A front panel USB Type-C Gen1 header, a Gen1 header for two further Type-A ports, and two USB 2.0 headers cover front-panel connectivity. Display outputs are DisplayPort 1.4 (4K 144Hz) and HDMI 2.1 (4K 60Hz) — dual display only, no triple-display support. A PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port and Q-Flash Plus button complete the rear panel. Wi-Fi 6 (Realtek RTL8851BE, 802.11ax, 2.4/5 GHz, 80 MHz) and Bluetooth 5.3 are onboard, alongside Realtek 2.5GbE LAN. Fan headers consist of CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT/pump, one system fan, and one system fan/pump — four total with Smart Fan 6 PWM/DC control and FAN STOP. RGB Fusion 2.0 is supported via two Addressable Gen2 (ARGB) headers and one standard RGB LED header.

⚠️ No USB Type-C is present on the rear panel — the Type-C connection is front panel header only. Plan case selection accordingly if a rear-facing USB-C port is needed.

⚠️ Integrated display output (HDMI/DisplayPort) requires a Ryzen processor with integrated Radeon graphics. Non-G Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs require a discrete GPU.
