The Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Pro WiFi is positioned as the accessible entry point into Gigabyte’s TRX40 lineup, without meaningful compromise on the core platform capabilities. Built on the AMD TRX40 chipset with Socket sTRX4, it supports the full range of 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors — covering builds from the 24-core 3960X through to the 64-core 3990X. The standard ATX form factor makes chassis compatibility significantly more straightforward than the XL-ATX Designare, broadening the pool of compatible cases for workstation builds.

Power Delivery and Cooling

The board uses a 12+2 phase Infineon Digital VRM with 70A power stages per phase, delivering a combined 980A of CPU power capacity — substantial headroom for high-core-count Threadripper CPUs under sustained all-core workloads. The Fins-Array heatsink with heatpipe keeps VRM temperatures under control, and the TRX40 chipset is cooled by a built-in 5cm ball-bearing fan rated for 50,000 hours. Smart Fan 5 manages all fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC detection and temperature-based profiles, including a FAN STOP mode for passive operation at low loads.

Memory, Storage, and Expansion

Eight DDR4 DIMM slots support quad-channel ECC and non-ECC unbuffered memory up to 256 GB, with OC support extending to DDR4-4400 for compatible kits. Three onboard M.2 slots operate at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds and each include a thermal guard heatsink to manage NVMe drive temperatures. Eight SATA III ports provide ample conventional storage capacity with RAID 0, 1, and 10 support. Four full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slots accommodate multi-GPU configurations, though slot spacing means the practical maximum for full dual-slot cards is three GPUs — worth confirming against your GPU width before planning a multi-card build.

Connectivity

A single Intel Gigabit LAN port with cFosSpeed traffic shaping handles wired networking, while onboard Intel WiFi 6 (802.11ax, 2T2R) and Bluetooth 5.0 cover wireless connectivity. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C is available on both the rear I/O panel and as a front panel header. Audio is handled by a Realtek codec with WIMA audio capacitors for clean signal reproduction. RGB Fusion 2.0 with addressable LED headers allows RGB customisation and synchronisation with compatible Gigabyte peripherals. Q-Flash Plus enables BIOS updates from a USB drive without needing a CPU, RAM, or GPU installed — useful for initial platform setup.

⚠️ This board uses Socket sTRX4 and supports only 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper (3000-series). It is not compatible with 1st/2nd Gen Threadripper (TR4) or Threadripper PRO processors.

⚠️ Unlike the TRX40 Designare, this board ships without the AORUS Gen4 AIC Adaptor or a Thunderbolt add-in card. If you need additional M.2 slots or Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, factor in the cost of those accessories separately.

⚠️ Due to PCIe slot spacing, only three dual-slot GPUs can be physically installed simultaneously despite four x16 slots being present.

⚠️ ECC memory functionality is CPU-dependent — verify your Threadripper model supports ECC if that is a workload requirement.
