The B850 Pro RS WiFi steps up from its B650 stablemates in all the ways that matter for a sustained-use platform. The 14+2+1 phase power design uses 80A Dr.MOS stages across an 8-layer PCB, making it genuinely comfortable with high-core-count Ryzen 9000 processors at stock and leaving reasonable thermal headroom for CPU overclocking — a capability B850 unlocks in full. Dual 8-pin ATX12V connectors feed the VRM, with the second connector optional for standard builds but recommended when pushing the CPU hard. The white-accented heatsink aesthetic of the Pro RS lineup is carried through cleanly on this ATX footprint, keeping the build presentation sharp without leaning into aggressive gaming branding.

⚠️ CPU overclocking is supported on B850. The 14+2+1 80A Dr.MOS stage is well-suited to the full Ryzen 7000/9000 range at stock, and handles moderate overclocking confidently. For sustained high-frequency all-core OC sessions, connecting the second 8-pin ATX12V cable and ensuring good case airflow over the VRM is recommended.

Memory and Storage

Four DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel memory up to 256 GB with XMP and AMD EXPO profile support, rated up to DDR5-8000+ (OC). Storage coverage is comprehensive for the chipset class: M2_1 is a CPU-connected Blazing M.2 running at PCIe Gen5x4 (128 Gb/s), M2_2 is a CPU-connected Hyper M.2 at PCIe Gen4x4 (64 Gb/s), M2_3 is a chipset-connected Hyper M.2 at PCIe Gen4x4 (64 Gb/s) supporting the shorter 2230/2242/2260 form factors as well as 2280, and M2_4 is a chipset-connected Ultra M.2 at PCIe Gen3x4 (32 Gb/s). ⚠️ There are two bandwidth dependencies to be aware of: if M2_3 is occupied, the secondary PCIe 4.0 x16 slot (PCIE2) is disabled. If either of the two native SATA3 ports (SATA3_1 or SATA3_2) is in use, M2_4 downgrades from Gen3x4 to Gen3x2. Plan your storage layout accordingly before populating slots.

⚠️ PCIe and M.2 bandwidth varies by CPU generation. PCIE1 runs at Gen5x16 with Ryzen 7000 and 9000, but drops to Gen4x8 with Ryzen 8000 (Phoenix 1) and Gen4x4 with Ryzen 8000 (Phoenix 2). Similarly, M2_1 only reaches Gen5x4 on Ryzen 7000 and 9000 — it runs at Gen4x4 on all Ryzen 8000 variants. M2_2 drops to Gen4x2 on Ryzen 8000 (Phoenix 2).

Connectivity and I/O

The rear I/O is well-equipped: a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (10 Gb/s) and a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.4a alt-mode sit alongside four USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A and six USB 2.0 ports, plus HDMI 2.1 (4K 120Hz) for systems with integrated graphics.
