Description
TUF Durability and Gaming Features on the A520 Platform
The ASUS TUF Gaming A520M-Plus WiFi brings the TUF Gaming brand’s emphasis on long-term reliability and gaming-ready features to the accessible A520 chipset tier. Military-grade capacitors and chokes, SafeSlot Core+ PCIe reinforcement, Stack Cool 3+ 2-ounce copper PCB layers for improved thermal dissipation, and comprehensive ESD and overvoltage protection carry through from more expensive TUF Gaming boards — making this a noticeably better-built option than generic A520 boards at a comparable price. Four DIMM slots supporting up to 128 GB, three rear display outputs, onboard WiFi 5, and Aura Sync ARGB lighting round out a feature set that punches above the typical A520 offering.
Power Delivery and Cooling
The Digi+ VRM with 6-phase digital power delivery and enhanced VRM heatsink provides stable CPU power across mainstream Ryzen workloads. Stack Cool 3+ uses 2-ounce copper PCB layers to draw heat away from power and signal traces, helping maintain component temperatures during extended gaming sessions. A PCH heatsink keeps chipset temperatures controlled. Fan Xpert 2+ manages fan headers with hybrid PWM/DC auto-detection and temperature-based fan curve control. It is important to note that the A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking — the TUF Gaming branding here reflects build quality and durability rather than overclocking headroom. The VRM is best suited to Ryzen CPUs at or below 65W TDP.
Memory and Storage
Four DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 128 GB of dual-channel unbuffered memory — ECC support is CPU-dependent — with OC profiles reaching DDR4-4866 for compatible kits. A single M.2 slot operates at PCIe 3.0 x4 (32 Gb/s) and supports both NVMe and SATA M.2 drives. No thermal guard heatsink is included on the M.2 slot. Four SATA III ports provide conventional storage connectivity.
Connectivity
A Realtek Gigabit LAN port with TUF LANGuard hardware-level surge and EMI protection handles wired networking. Onboard WiFi 5 (802.11ac, 1×1, up to 433 Mbps) with Bluetooth 5.0 provides wireless connectivity — a practical inclusion for builds in locations where running Ethernet is impractical. Three rear display outputs — DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K@60Hz), and D-Sub — cover modern and legacy monitors alike for APU-based builds. USB connectivity includes USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the rear I/O. Audio uses a Realtek ALC887/897 codec. Aura Sync Addressable Gen 2 and standard RGB headers enable lighting synchronisation with compatible ASUS and third-party peripherals. BIOS FlashBack enables BIOS updates from USB without a CPU, RAM, or GPU installed — handy for pre-building systems or ensuring Ryzen 5000 compatibility before first boot.
⚠️ The A520 chipset does not support CPU overclocking despite the TUF Gaming branding — the name reflects build quality, not tuning capability. A-XMP memory profiles are still supported.
⚠️ The VRM is best suited to Ryzen CPUs at or below 65W TDP. Avoid pairing this board with high-TDP Ryzen 9 processors under sustained all-core loads.
⚠️ The onboard WiFi 5 is a 1×1 antenna configuration limited to 433 Mbps — adequate for gaming and general use, but not a substitute for a dedicated WiFi 6 card in throughput-sensitive environments.
⚠️ Only one M.2 slot is available, without a thermal guard. Plan storage at build time and consider an aftermarket M.2 heatsink for NVMe drives under sustained workloads.
⚠️ Confirm your Ryzen 5000 Series CPU against ASUS’s AM4 compatibility list — a BIOS update may be required before 5000-series CPUs are recognised. Use BIOS FlashBack to update without a compatible CPU if needed.
