B650 ATX at Its Most Accessible

The B650 UD AX is the entry point of Gigabyte’s B650 ATX lineup, designed for builders who want Socket AM5 with CPU overclocking support and PCIe Gen5 M.2 storage without stepping into Eagle or Aorus-tier pricing. The 6+2+2 phase digital VRM is honest about its positioning — it delivers clean, stable power for everyday Ryzen builds and moderate overclocking on lower-TDP processors, without the thermal headroom of the Eagle or Aorus stablemates. EZ-Latch on the primary PCIe x16 slot makes graphics card removal tool-free, and Q-Flash Plus enables BIOS updates without any CPU or RAM installed. The UD series carries Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable badge, reflecting solid PCB and component quality standards at the price point.

⚠️ The 6+2+2 VRM is best suited to 65W TDP processors under sustained load. 105W CPUs will run at stock without issue, but sustained high-TDP workloads are outside the comfort zone of this power stage. High-wattage Ryzen 9 builds or aggressive CPU overclocking should be directed toward the B650 Eagle AX or B650 Aorus Elite AX instead.

⚠️ CPU overclocking is supported on B650. However, the modest VRM makes this board most appropriate for memory OC (EXPO/XMP) and light CPU tuning rather than sustained all-core frequency pushing.

Memory and Storage

Four DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation up to 256 GB, with AMD EXPO and XMP profiles reaching DDR5-8000 (OC). The first M.2 slot (M2A_CPU) is CPU-connected and runs at PCIe 5.0 x4 (128 Gb/s) with Ryzen 7000/9000, supporting up to the extended 25110 form factor alongside 2580, 22110, and 2280. The second slot (M2P_CPU) is CPU-connected but runs at PCIe 4.0 x2 (32 Gb/s) across all supported CPU generations — this is a meaningful bandwidth limitation and worth factoring into primary drive placement. It supports 22110 and 2280 form factors. The third slot (M2C_SB) is chipset-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 and supports 22110 and 2280. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports handle additional storage, and RAID 0/1/10 is supported for both SATA and NVMe.

⚠️ M2P_CPU is limited to PCIe 4.0 x2 (32 Gb/s) regardless of which CPU is installed — this applies to Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 alike. This is notably slower than the PCIe 4.0 x4 found on M2P_CPU slots on higher-tier boards. Use M2A_CPU as the primary drive and reserve M2P_CPU for secondary or less performance-critical NVMe storage.

⚠️ M2A_CPU drops from PCIe 5.0 x4 to PCIe 4.0 x4/x2 with all Ryzen 8000 variants.

Connectivity and I/O

Rear I/O provides nine USB ports: two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (10 Gbps, red — one also serving as the Q-Flash Plus port), one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C (5 Gbps), two chipset USB 2.0, and four USB 2.0 via hub. DisplayPort 1.4 (4K 144Hz) and HDMI 2.1 (4K 60Hz) serve iGPU-equipped processors. A PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port is also present on the rear. Front panel connectivity includes a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C header (5 Gbps) and a USB 3.2 Gen1 header for two further Type-A ports. Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax, 2.4/5 GHz only — no 6 GHz band) and Bluetooth 5.3 are onboard via Realtek RTL8851, alongside Realtek 1GbE for wired networking. Fan headers consist of one CPU fan, one CPU fan/pump, two system fan headers, and one system fan/pump header — five total with Smart Fan 6 PWM/DC control and FAN STOP. RGB is provided via one Addressable Gen2 (ARGB) header and one standard RGB header.

⚠️ Wi-Fi 6 is onboard, not Wi-Fi 6E — the 6 GHz band is not supported. If the 6 GHz band or tri-band Wi-Fi is important, the B650 Eagle AX (Wi-Fi 6E) is the step up.

⚠️ LAN is 1 Gigabit only — no 2.5GbE.

⚠️ The rear USB Type-C is Gen1 at 5 Gbps only. No USB Gen2x2 port is present on either the rear panel or as a front panel header.

⚠️ Only one ARGB header and one RGB header are present — significantly fewer than the Eagle AX (3× ARGB) or Aorus Elite AX (2× ARGB, 2× RGB). Plan RGB lighting accordingly.

⚠️ Integrated display output (HDMI/DisplayPort) requires a Ryzen processor with integrated Radeon graphics. Non-G Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs require a discrete GPU.
