R2,615.00 inc. VAT
The Gigabyte B840M DS3H is a Micro-ATX AM5 motherboard built on the AMD B840 chipset, supporting Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 Series processors. It features a 5+2+2 phase digital VRM, four DDR5 DIMM slots for up to 256 GB with EXPO/XMP support, two CPU-connected PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, four SATA ports, Realtek 2.5GbE LAN, dual DisplayPort 1.4 plus HDMI 2.1 for triple-display output, a rear USB Type-C Gen1, a front USB Type-C header, four fan headers, two ARGB headers, debug LEDs, and Q-Flash Plus — a well-rounded B840 Micro-ATX board that steps meaningfully above the D2H without a significant price jump.

Description
More of Everything That Matters
The B840M DS3H makes a strong case as the B840 Micro-ATX sweet spot, correcting the two most meaningful limitations of the B840M D2H in one step up: four DIMM slots instead of two (doubling maximum capacity to 256 GB), and dual DisplayPort 1.4 outputs alongside HDMI 2.1 for genuine triple-display iGPU support — a practically useful feature for multi-monitor office and workstation builds using Ryzen 8000 G-series processors. Both M.2 slots are CPU-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4, replacing the D2H’s slower chipset-connected PCIe 3.0 x2 secondary slot, and the fourth fan header (system fan/pump) provides more flexibility for cooling layouts. The 5+2+2 VRM delivers the same honest mainstream performance as the D2H, and all the build-friendly features carry over: USB Type-C on both the rear and front panel header, debug LEDs, Q-Flash Plus, and EZ-Latch on the PCIe x16 slot.
⚠️ The B840 chipset does not support CPU overclocking. Memory overclocking via AMD EXPO and XMP profiles is supported up to DDR5-8200 (OC). If CPU OC is a requirement, a B850 board is needed.
⚠️ The 5+2+2 VRM is best matched to 65W TDP processors under sustained load. 105W CPUs run at stock without issue, but sustained high-TDP workloads are outside the comfort zone of this power stage.
Memory and Storage
Four DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation up to 256 GB, with AMD EXPO and XMP profiles reaching DDR5-8200 (OC). M2A_CPU is CPU-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) and supports both 2580 and 2280 form factors. M2B_CPU is also CPU-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) with Ryzen 7000/9000 and Ryzen 8000 Phoenix 1, supporting 22110 and 2280 form factors — it drops to PCIe 4.0 x2 with Ryzen 8000 Phoenix 2 processors. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports handle additional storage, with RAID 0/1/5/10 for NVMe (RAID 5 on Ryzen 9000 only) and RAID 0/1/10 for SATA.
⚠️ M2B_CPU drops to PCIe 4.0 x2 (32 Gb/s) with Ryzen 8000 Phoenix 2 processors specifically. Use M2A_CPU as the primary drive for the best performance regardless of CPU generation.
⚠️ Neither M.2 slot reaches PCIe Gen5 speeds — the maximum is PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s). The B840M Aorus Elite WiFi6E or a B850 board is required for Gen5 NVMe.
Connectivity and I/O
Rear I/O provides seven USB ports: one USB Type-C Gen1 (5 Gbps, CPU), two USB Gen1 Type-A (5 Gbps, CPU), and four USB 2.0 Type-A (CPU+hub), alongside dual DisplayPort 1.4 (4K 144Hz each), HDMI 2.1 (4K 60Hz), a PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port, and the Q-Flash Plus button. A front panel USB Type-C Gen1 header, a USB Gen1 header (2 ports), and two USB 2.0 headers (4 ports) cover front panel connectivity. Realtek 2.5GbE LAN handles wired networking. Fan headers consist of CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT/pump, one system fan, and one system fan/pump — four total with Smart Fan 6 PWM/DC control and FAN STOP. RGB Fusion 2.0 is supported via two Addressable Gen2 (ARGB) headers and one standard RGB LED header. Debug boot LEDs (CPU/DRAM/VGA/BOOT) aid troubleshooting.
⚠️ No onboard Wi-Fi and no M.2 Key E slot for a wireless module. A USB or PCIe adapter is required for wireless connectivity. If Wi-Fi is needed, the B840M DS3H WiFi6 is the direct wireless equivalent.
⚠️ Integrated display output (dual DisplayPort + HDMI) requires a Ryzen processor with integrated Radeon graphics. Non-G Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs require a discrete GPU.
