The Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Designare is designed for professionals who need more than a desktop CPU can offer. Built on the AMD TRX40 chipset for Socket sTRX4, it supports 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors — giving access to up to 64 cores and massive PCIe lane counts suited to multi-GPU rendering, simulation, data science, and heavy media production workloads. The XL-ATX form factor accommodates the board’s extensive feature set, and the build quality throughout reflects its workstation positioning.

Power Delivery and Thermal Management

The board uses a 16+3 phase Infineon Digital VRM solution with 70A power stages, providing headroom to sustain high-core-count Threadripper CPUs under prolonged all-core loads without thermal throttling. Triple thermal protection via Fins-Array heatsinks and an 8mm Mega-Heatpipe keeps VRM temperatures in check even in sustained workstation workloads. Hybrid fan headers support both PWM and DC fans, with Smart Fan 5 enabling temperature-based profiles across all headers.

Memory, Storage, and Expansion

Eight DDR4 DIMM slots support quad-channel ECC and non-ECC unbuffered memory, with OC support up to DDR4-4400 for compatible kits — a meaningful advantage for memory-bandwidth-sensitive workloads. Four onboard M.2 slots run at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds and are fitted with enlarged thermal guards to keep NVMe drives cool under sustained throughput. Eight SATA III ports provide additional storage capacity. Four full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slots support up to four dual-slot cards simultaneously, making this board well suited to multi-GPU compute or professional visualisation setups. The bundled GC-Titan Ridge add-in card delivers Thunderbolt 3 connectivity at up to 40 Gb/s, useful for high-speed external storage, displays, or daisy-chaining peripherals. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC1220-VB codec with WIMA capacitors, rated at 120dB SNR for clean output. RGB Fusion 2.0 with addressable LED headers rounds out the feature set for those who want visual customisation.
