Professional TRX50 Workstation, Refined for the AI Era

The Pro WS TRX50-SAGE WiFi A is the updated version of ASUS’s flagship TRX50 workstation board, purpose-built for AMD’s sTR5 platform with Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000/7000 WX-Series and Threadripper 9000/7000 Series processors. Compared to the original Pro WS TRX50-SAGE WiFi, the A variant adds a fourth M.2 slot (PCIe 5.0 x4, exclusive to Threadripper PRO 9000/7000 WX-Series) and a second SlimSAS port, expanding high-speed NVMe options for storage-intensive AI, rendering, and simulation workloads. The 20-phase power design delivers sustained, efficient power delivery for high-core-count Threadripper builds, with active cooling on the VRM heatsinks and onboard PCIe power connectors (dual 8-pin PCIe-to-CPU, plus 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe) providing additional current headroom for multi-GPU configurations without stressing PSU cable runs. The board is rated and tested for 24/7 operation at up to 45°C and 80% humidity — a meaningful validation for always-on professional environments. ASUS Control Center Express (ACCE) is included for real-time hardware monitoring and IT fleet management, and the BMC header supports ASUS IPMI expansion cards for remote hardware management.

⚠️ ECC RDIMM memory is required on the sTR5 platform — standard unbuffered consumer DDR5 is not compatible. Quad-channel activates with all four DIMM slots populated. Ensure memory is sourced from ASUS’s validated RDIMM/RDIMM-3DS support list.

⚠️ Multiple power connectors are required: dual 24-pin ATX, dual 8-pin ATX12V CPU power, dual 8-pin PCIe-to-CPU, one 6-pin PCIe, and one 8-pin PCIe. A high-wattage PSU (1000W+ recommended) with sufficient connector availability is essential for this platform.

⚠️ The sTR5 socket uses AMD’s TR5 rail/carrier frame installation mechanism — different from AM5. A Threadripper-rated liquid cooler with sTR5 compatibility is strongly recommended.

Memory and Storage

Four DDR5 ECC RDIMM/RDIMM-3DS slots support quad-channel operation up to 1 TB (256 GB per DIMM), with EXPO and XMP OC support. M.2_1 and M.2_2 are CPU-connected at PCIe 5.0 x4 (128 Gb/s each), supporting 2242/2260/2280 form factors — available across all supported processors. M.2_3 is chipset-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) in 2280, but shares bandwidth with SlimSAS_2, so the two cannot be used simultaneously at full speed. M.2_4 is a fourth CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 x4 slot (2242/2260/2280) available exclusively with Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000/7000 WX-Series processors. SlimSAS_1 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe (WX-Series only); SlimSAS_2 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe but shares bandwidth with M.2_3. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports are provided alongside, with RAID 0/1/5/10 supported for both PCIe and SATA via AMD RAIDXpert2.

⚠️ M.2_4 and SlimSAS_1 are exclusive to Threadripper PRO 9000/7000 WX-Series processors. They are not available with standard Threadripper 9000/7000 (non-PRO) CPUs.

⚠️ M.2_3 and SlimSAS_2 share bandwidth — using both simultaneously reduces available PCIe 4.0 lanes for each. Plan storage layout accordingly for maximum throughput.

💡 SlimSAS connectors (SFF-8654) require compatible SFF-8654 backplanes or host bus adapters for NVMe expansion — these are not standard consumer M.2 or SATA connectors.

Expansion and Connectivity

Three PCIe 5.0 x16 CPU slots and one PCIe 4.0 x16 CPU slot provide extensive multi-GPU or accelerator expansion capability, all reinforced with PCIe Slot Q-Release Slim for easier card removal. Networking is dual-stack: Marvell AQtion 10GbE (LAN1) for high-throughput NAS and storage network connectivity, plus Intel I226-LM 2.5GbE (LAN2) for standard wired use. Two rear USB4 Type-C ports at 40 Gbps cover high-speed docking, NVMe enclosures, and display connectivity. Four USB 10 Gbps Type-A ports, two USB 5 Gbps Type-A, one USB 2.0, and BIOS FlashBack round out the rear panel. Front panel internal headers include a USB 20 Gbps Type-C connector, a USB 5 Gbps header, and two USB 2.0 headers. Wi-Fi 7 (Realtek RTL8922AE, 802.11be, 2.4/5/6 GHz, 160 MHz) and Bluetooth 5.4 are onboard. Fan headers total eight: CPU fan, CPU OPT, W_PUMP+, four chassis fans, and two VRM fans (with onboard VRM fan included). An onboard start button, safe boot button, retry button, LN2 mode jumper, and slow mode switch make this board suited to both production and extreme tuning environments.

⚠️ Wi-Fi 7 full features (MLO, 6 GHz band, Bluetooth 5.4) require Windows 11 version 24H2. On Windows 11 SV1/SV2, the module operates at Wi-Fi 6E speeds. Windows 10 has no driver support for this Wi-Fi 7 module.

⚠️ This is a CEB form factor board — verify chassis CEB compatibility and clearances before ordering. Standard ATX cases will not accommodate this board.
