B650 ATX Foundations with Wi-Fi and PCIe 5.0 Storage

The B650 Eagle AX is Gigabyte’s entry-level B650 full ATX offering, aimed at builders who want the AM5 platform, PCIe Gen5 M.2 storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and CPU overclocking capability without paying for AORUS-tier VRM or connectivity. The 12+2+2 phase digital VRM provides stable and efficient power delivery for mainstream Ryzen builds, with M.2 Thermal Guard heatsinks covering all three M.2 slots to keep NVMe thermals in check. EZ-Latch on the primary PCIe x16 slot enables tool-free graphics card removal, and Q-Flash Plus allows BIOS updates without any CPU or RAM installed — useful for preparing the board ahead of a Ryzen 9000 installation. The WIFI EZ-Plug design (rev 1.2) simplifies Wi-Fi antenna installation compared to traditional threaded SMA connectors.

⚠️ CPU overclocking is supported on B650. The 12+2+2 VRM with 60A MOSFETs handles the mainstream Ryzen 7000/9000 lineup at stock confidently and supports moderate CPU overclocking on 65–105W processors. Sustained all-core overclocking on high-TDP Ryzen 9 chips is outside the comfort zone of this power stage — consider the B650 Aorus Elite AX or higher for heavy OC use.

Memory and Storage

Four DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation up to 256 GB, with AMD EXPO and XMP profiles reaching DDR5-8000 (OC). The first M.2 slot (M2A_CPU) is CPU-connected and runs at PCIe 5.0 x4 (128 Gb/s) with Ryzen 7000/9000, supporting up to the extended 25110 form factor. The second slot (M2P_CPU) is also CPU-connected and runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gb/s) with Ryzen 7000/9000, supporting up to 25110. The third slot (M2C_SB) is chipset-connected at PCIe 4.0 x4 (32 Gb/s typical, x2 in some configurations), supporting up to 22110. All three M.2 slots are covered by M.2 Thermal Guard heatsinks. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports handle additional storage, and RAID 0/1/10 is supported for both SATA and NVMe.

⚠️ M2A_CPU drops from PCIe 5.0 x4 to 4.0 x4 with all Ryzen 8000 variants. M2P_CPU drops to PCIe 4.0 x2 with Ryzen 8000 Phoenix 2 processors. For maximum NVMe bandwidth, Ryzen 7000 or 9000 is recommended.

⚠️ M2C_SB (chipset) supports PCIe 4.0 x4 or x2 depending on system configuration. Sharing bandwidth with chipset PCIe lanes may affect available bandwidth when multiple chipset devices are active simultaneously.

Connectivity and I/O

Rear I/O provides nine USB ports: two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (10 Gbps, red — one doubles as Q-Flash Plus port), one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C (5 Gbps), two USB 2.0 from the chipset, and four USB 2.0 via hub. DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 serve iGPU-equipped processors, and a PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port covers legacy peripherals. Front panel connectivity includes a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C header (5 Gbps) and a USB 3.2 Gen1 header for two further Type-A ports — there is no USB Gen2x2 front panel header on this board. Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax, 2.4/5/6 GHz, 2T2R MU-MIMO) and Bluetooth 5.3 are onboard. Fan headers consist of one CPU fan, one CPU fan/pump, two system fan headers, and one system fan/pump header — five total, all 4-pin with PWM/DC and Smart Fan 6 control. RGB is covered by three Addressable Gen2 (ARGB) headers and one standard RGB header via RGB Fusion 2.0.

⚠️ LAN is 1 Gigabit only — this board does not include 2.5GbE. If faster wired networking is a priority, a USB 2.5GbE adapter or a board with onboard 2.5G such as the B650 Aorus Elite AX should be considered.

⚠️ No USB Gen2x2 (20 Gbps) Type-C header is present — the front panel USB-C header runs at Gen1 (5 Gbps). The rear Type-C is also Gen1 at 5 Gbps. The fastest rear USB ports are the two Gen2 Type-A (10 Gbps) red ports.

⚠️ EZ-Latch is present on the PCIe x16 slot only — M.2 slots use conventional screws, not EZ-Latch Plus as found on the Aorus Elite AX.

⚠️ Integrated display output (HDMI/DisplayPort) requires a Ryzen processor with integrated Radeon graphics. Non-G Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs require a discrete GPU.
